Lords of Dogtown
I don't expect much when I go see a movie anymore. I just like going to the movies so unless the flick is completely unwatchable, I usually am entertained enough to enjoy my popcorn and grape coolaid.
The real story of the Zephyr Skate Team and the origins of all the X-Games shit is told perfectly in the documentary film "Dogtown and Z-Boys" If you have watched the documentary then its easier to fill in all the gaps left out by the Hollywood movie "Lords of Dogtown"
That being said, "Lords of Dogtown" is what it is! It’s not awful and it’s not amazing. The acting isn’t brutal and it’s not fantastic. I got use to Keith Ledger after I realized it wasn’t actually Val Kilmer but I kept hoping a skateboard would hit Johnny Knocksville in the nuts so that I could enjoy him being in the movie.
These kids where total rock stars back in the day and I didn't think the movie got that across very well. I thought the soundtrack was super average and a good one would have helped the movie a ton!
I only spotted one cameo appearance by any of the actual guys so I guess I’ll watch the movie again sometime to see if I can spot anyone else.
So I guess "Lords of Dogtown" was ok! If I'm willing to watch it again sometime that must say something. Then again, I watched the documentary film thirty times so I wouldn't necessarily take my advice on whether you should pay money to see this movie or not!
