A brand new series by....ME!
Getting this new series on the air has been a lot of work and I suspect that the next few months will be even busier but it's been a while since I have felt this inspired! I'm having a lot of fun making television again!
In the history of my show page on the site,I talked about being asked to act in a student film called "Day of John" shortly after being kicked of the air a while back. Good thing I suddenly had the time to get involved in this little project because the film ended up being screened at the Toronto international Film Festival and has since become the inspiration for this new series.
I found it remarkable to meet so many aspiring film makers who were willing to sacrifice so much to make short films that nobody ever really has a chance to see. I guess that's when I first started thinking that maybe someday I could do for these film makers what I wish someone would have done for me at some point which is to give them a friggin break.
Just one lousy little break,a little exposure for their short film let's say! An opportunity to showcase their talent to a mass audience like on National Network television or something! That would be a good place to start if you want to be strutting your stuff a little bit if you ask me! So that's when I first started thinking about this new television series that goes on the air tonight.
I know a little bit about struggling and doing whatever you gotta do to make things happen for yourself so I can totally relate to these aspiring and unknown film makers. I got myself back on network televison which puts me in a position to maybe do what I set out to do which is good but now the trick is to create a hit Tv series out of all of this and keep things rolling!
It's not going to be easy,I know that for sure,it never has been! Take tonights episode for example. I wanted to kick off the new series with the film that inspired the series so an episode was put together featuring some behind the scenes footage while shooting "Day Of John" and the episode concluded by showcasing the short film like all the episodes will each week.
Then I find out that Chris Nash was recently invited to screen the film at a couple more big festivals which is really cool but guess what? That's right, the festival programmers told him they won't screen the film if it has already been aired on network television.
So.......
I had to scramble and cut together a new episode to go on the air tonight and only ended up being able to feature a few scenes from the movie instead of the short film in it's entirety! Seeing these movies each week at the end of each episode and deciding if they are any good or not is really what this series is all about if you ask me. So keep tuning in guys, tonights episode might not be exactly what you were looking forward to seeing but that being said, next weeks show will feature the short film "COPS" by Shane Cunningham and the week after that it's DOGBOY "the untold story". It will be up to you guys to decide if this story should have been told at all!
I hope you everyone likes this new series and the new direction I'm heading in these days.I hope you stick with it for a while because I'm just beginning to figure out how to put these shows together in a nice little half hour package for television and by the end of this first season I'm sure I'll have it all figured out!
Have a great weekend everyone!
