If Only I Was Adam Sandler

Hey guys, I've got a big decision to make today! Either I slit my wrist and then quickly blow my head off or stick some shorts in a bag and take off for the cottage for the weekend and hope that next week goes a lot different than this one has.

Click here if you want to see a little bit of a singing cowboy kinda character I've been working on over the last few weeks for the show. There's a bunch of really funny footage that we shot which I'm planning on putting in the show, but at this point, I have no idea anymore when the show is actually going to get on the air.

A good friend of mine came up with a theory on how I can continue to figure out how things are going for me in TV land. It's the perfect way to accurately judge just how successful I am at any given time.

It's simple: the more people there are who can somehow dictate or control your destiny, the less successful you are. Let's say that you are Brad Pitt or Adam Sandler, maybe. There are probably only a handful of suits in the industry with enough clout to be able to influence and potentially stop a project that you wanted to develop, from actually getting done. If you were me, there would be a handful of suits in any given department that could probably jam things up for you! So there it is. It's a really good theory!

If I end up opting for Plan B and head up north for the weekend, then I hope to run into a few of you on Saturday night at The Kee in Bala. Sloan is playing and my pals at The Kee have hooked me up with a few tickets because they know I like the band and The Kee is the best place in the world to kick back and listen to live music. It really is!

By the way, I saw Cinderella Man last night, which was really good and last week I went to see Mr. & Mrs. Smith, not Batman, which is what most people guessed in the Movie Game that wasn't really a game. It was more like people just guessing what movie I was going to see! (LOL)

Have a great long weekend, everyone.

Half way out the door....

Hey guys!

I'm in a little bit of a rush right now, but if you email me and guess which movie I'm seeing tonight, it will be like you're the winner of this game, which isn't really a game, it's more like you emailing me and guessing which movie I'm seeing tonight...

I'm in a rush, I really gotta go, gotta fly, I'm outta here, bye.

The "Kayvon Game" Prize!

Hey everybody, nothing too exciting happening today. I had a good couple days off up at the cottage and am now back to working on new episodes of the show and waiting to hear when exactly they are going to start airing. My meeting last week went really well and it sounds like everyone at the network is excited about having The JR DIGS Show on the air again this summer.

There are a lot of new people in charge at Global these days and I'm hoping the recent shake-up means that all the new suits will see the potential in the show that the old ones didn't. This is a really nerve wrecking and exciting time for me. New people at the network means that I get a brand new opportunity to showcase my show. All I can do now is keep working on the show every day and pray that it gets on the air soon and it pulls some good ratings. Other than that, I guess there's nothing else I can do, other than update the website and try to amuse you guys once in a while that way.

As a matter of fact, I never did put the phone conversation I had with Kayvon a while ago on the site here. Phil Dewan ended up winning the "Kayvon Game" and I promised him that the prize would be a personal message from Kayvon himself.

So here it is, just click here! Congratulations Phil.

Thanks to everyone who played the "Kayvon Game" I guess I had better start thinking of another new game to play here on the site. I've been so busy for the last while that I haven't had any time to think of fun new games for everyone to play!

Having fun is fun, don't you think?

Later guys,

JR

Lords of Dogtown

I don't expect much when I go see a movie anymore. I just like going to the movies so unless the flick is completely unwatchable, I usually am entertained enough to enjoy my popcorn and grape coolaid.

The real story of the Zephyr Skate Team and the origins of all the X-Games shit is told perfectly in the documentary film "Dogtown and Z-Boys" If you have watched the documentary then its easier to fill in all the gaps left out by the Hollywood movie "Lords of Dogtown"

That being said, "Lords of Dogtown" is what it is! It’s not awful and it’s not amazing. The acting isn’t brutal and it’s not fantastic. I got use to Keith Ledger after I realized it wasn’t actually Val Kilmer but I kept hoping a skateboard would hit Johnny Knocksville in the nuts so that I could enjoy him being in the movie.

These kids where total rock stars back in the day and I didn't think the movie got that across very well. I thought the soundtrack was super average and a good one would have helped the movie a ton!

I only spotted one cameo appearance by any of the actual guys so I guess I’ll watch the movie again sometime to see if I can spot anyone else.

So I guess "Lords of Dogtown" was ok! If I'm willing to watch it again sometime that must say something. Then again, I watched the documentary film thirty times so I wouldn't necessarily take my advice on whether you should pay money to see this movie or not!

The Morning After

I like rainy days! When I don't have any plans to be outside, I really like it when it rains (it's been raining all morning). I also like having a coffee in the morning before I get my day rolling. That's kind of a new thing, along with listening to Howard Stern every morning. I like the chemistry they have on his radio show. There is a sincerity and a level of honesty that comes across which makes it easy to listen to.

Now that I am, for some reason, reviewing The Howard Stern Radio Show, I'm also feeling inclined to give you my first movie review.

I received a very well written email from Guy reminding me not to forget about him and all the others out there like him, who are into skateboarding and are interested to hear what I thought about "Lords of Dogtown"

I'm no movie critic and I don't even skate anymore, but there was a day when I was really really really into the whole skate / surf culture. Those of you who know a little bit about me, know that I used to own shops, I shaped skimboards and I was really into the whole scene before it became what it is today. It sucks these days if you ask me by the way! I guess that's why I was so pumped about seeing this movie. It's more about how things used to be, than how things are today. I am coming back around a little bit, but just a little bit.

Damn, it's way later than I thought it was guys. I have a huge day today and I gotta take care of a couple things here, so how about I review the movie for you all later on tonight. If you're not interested, then let me quickly say this, "Go rent the documentary 'Dogtown & Z-Boys', it's awesome!"

See you guys,

JR

What's Up Wednesdays!

It was pretty hot outside again today, not that it bothered me much, because I was inside all day long.

I just spent ten hours looking at and editing video to put in another new show. Branden was working the magic with me all day long and has to stay here for another couple of hours, putting more raw footage into the computer for us to work on first thing tomorrow morning.

I really gotta get out of here for a little while and Branden is the computer genius who knows how to digitize footage and all that kinda stuff, so guess where I'm off to on a Wednesday night?

I missed Wednesday movie night last week because I was shooting another new episode of the show to be aired later this summer. I can't wait for you guys to see it! Tom Green makes a surprise appearance and the interview we did was classic! His entire "Keepin' It Real Crew" ends up on the couch with us and all mayhem breaks out when pro skateboarder and all-around good guy, Jeremy Klein goes bezerk! I don't want to say too much more because I want you all to watch the episode when it airs.

It was very cool that Tom made the time after his rap show to shoot stuff with me. It ended up being a very late and a very interesting and hilarious night.

Some people have been sending me pictures that were taken at different times over the evening. Thanks guys, great to hear from all of you.

Here's a couple of the pics I have been sent:

I'll try to get more of them put up on the photos page when I get the chance.

I mentioned meeting Jeremy Klein, who was with Tom last Wednesday night. He's a pro skater and it was cool to actually meet him. I forgot to ask him if he had seen "Lords of Dogtown"...guess what movie I'm finally going to see?

I better fly. See ya guys,

Still Livin' The Dream

So after six months of jumping through burning hoops and meetings and pitching and re-pitching the show to the network, it looks like all my patience and persistence is finally paying off. A meeting has just been set up for Thursday to discuss exactly what it will take to get the show on the air again this summer. All the big boys will be there, so this is it. I'll keep you posted.

My plan has been to get eight shows in the can and as I mentioned yesterday, I am half way there. I also mentioned that I was going to put some video that I shot this past weekend at the cottage on the site here for you guys to check out if you wanted to.

Click here to watch it! I'm still living the dream guys...

HE DIDN'T DO IT !

The verdict is in and The King Of Pop is free! Hopefully he will consider coming on my show this summer as a special quest that be fun! All kinds of celeb's are all of a sudden agreeing to come on my show, so why not MJ? There must be some agents out there in La La Land who are catching wind of the rumors about a certain U.S. cable network picking up The JR DIGS Show because I've never ,ever had so many people's people call me back to help get shoot's set up! It's awesome!

I have four shows in the can now and I'm jammin onward!

It's looking really good for the show to be back on the air again this summer here in Canada guy's.I just delivered the first two shows to Global a couple of hours ago for them to be screened. As soon as I hear anything at all from the network with regards to the show I'll let you all know.

I can't say too much about what is going on because I don't want to get ahead of myself here and screw things up.It's been such a stupid and crazy ride for the last four years that I don't know what to think about anything anymore.Stuff just keeps playing out and I just keep rolling with it.So do you guy's I guess.
It's so awesome to have so many people behind me on this quest. You guy's are the best. You really are!!!!!!!

I hope you all had a great weekend.I shot some video up north at the cottage like I said I was going to do so maybe I'll take a bit of a break tonight and have a look at it.If I can I'll pick a little bit of it to post here on the site for you guy's to look at.If it's not here later on tonight then check back in the morning.I have a shit load of new footage that was shot for the show to look through yet tonight and I really should make some time to return some of the emails you guy's have been sending me as well.If I haven't emailed you back yet it's just because I'm a lazy nogood bastard but I'll do it one of these day's, I promise!

Later Guy's!

It's Freakin' Friday Already

Hey guys, I have a little bit of running around to do this afternoon and then I'm off to the cottage for the weekend. It's been a ridiculous week for me and next week is shaping up to be even busier as the wheels are in motion to get the show back on the air as early as next Saturday. Cool, eh!

Wait until you guys see some of the new characters I've been working on...
I'll probably shoot a new vlog up north over the weekend, so look for that on Monday as well as some news on the show!
Keep screaming from the cheap seats everyone. It's the place to be!

You Gotta Fight,For Your Right,To.......

Hey guys, I hope you haven't missed me too much. I've actually run into a few of you this past week while I was out sliding around from place to place. It's great to meet people in person, say what up, have a few laughs, you know, all the regular stuff.

I met Jason Bateman a few days ago which was kind of cool for me. Arrested Development is one of my favourite shows and he is really good in it. It's a really funny show!

I met Orange Bandage just last night. Those of you who use to be regulars on the message board will remember Orange Bandage. She was at the Tom Green Rap Show that I was at. It was a good time but I ended up getting home at like 4:30am so I've been dragging my ass around for most of the day today.

I did manage to make a new Vlog a little while ago but I didn't have time to create the link so that you guys could check it out......

Click here for a good time(lol)!

Stay Gold all my people. I look forward to meeting every single one of you!

Rock On

What up people? It's the weekend, time to take your pants off and sing out loud in your car so that the person in the car beside you can laugh at you because you look like an idiot!

If I get some of the stuff done that I'm in the middle of here, I'll be going to see Lords of Dog Town tonight. If not, then I'll go see it Saturday night. Last night I ended up getting a ticket at the last minute to go see Jerry Seinfeld do his stand up act. He's a very funny man and people really love laughing at people they have laughed at on TV. I did stand up in front of about fourteen people at Yuk Yuk's once, but I would rather shoot and edit video or be a rock star!

I haven't been singing too many songs for you guys lately. Robert actually made a point of emailing me to tell me that. I emailed him back to say I would try and start doing that a little more and then he emailed me back again and sent me a video of himself singing a song. He said it was okay to post it here in my blog, so I will, mostly because it sucks so bad (LOL).

Click here to hear just a little bit of the song Robert sent me. Rock on Robert!

See, I'm not the only one who can't really play guitar or sing very well.
We don't care, do we, Robert?

Have a great weekend everyone.

Just One More Sleep

Most of you know that I absolutely love going to the movies and even though too many of them kind of suck, I just like going to the movies. Everyone was waiting for Star Wars to come out this summer. The new movie that Tom Cruise is in looks like it might be cool and a lot of you are probably waiting for that to come out, and in one day, the movie I have been waiting forever to see comes out, and I can't wait to see it.

Two of my favourite movies happen to be documentaries. American Movie is the story of an aspiring filmmaker and his burnt-out buddy and Dog Town and Z-Boys is a documentary about the Z-Boys and the skateboard culture back in the day, before every snot-nosed kid who has a skateboard started acting like he is the shit and is about to turn pro and make millions of dollars. If you haven't seen this amazing documentary, which is actually narrated by Sean Penn, go rent it before you see Lords of Dogtown, which comes out on Friday.

I'm not surprised that they made this movie, but I'm shocked at how much they are promoting it. I really hope it isn't a bullshit Hollywood movie, that would be very disappointing. I've waited a long time to see this movie. Most of the articles and interviews I've read in the skate mag's make me think that they did a good job on the movie, but I'll be sure to let you all know what I think right after I see it.

One of these days, maybe I'll do some short reviews of all the movies I've seen over the last few months. If you guys have any suggestions for how I should rate them, then let me know, we need to come up with something original, so think hard about this guys.

I'll touch back to you all later,

JR
