My New Thing
Another long weekend is about to begin, I delivered my fourth show to the network yesterday and I'm going to have some left over rigatoni for lunch. I made it last night and put sliced black olives in the sauce which is my new thing, olives! I'm trying to wrap up a couple things quick before I pack up and head north to the cottage for the weekend. One thing I have to do for sure is email some entertainment editors and see if I can get anyone to write anything about the show in the newspapers. A little bit of press would be nice right about now so that more people find out about the show being back on the air. Some of you have continued to email people in the media about the show and I want to make sure you all know that I really appreciate it. It's weird how people in the media sometimes seem to be more impressed and intrigued when they hear from regular people, than from me lets say. I guess that makes sense though. Of course I want a little free publicity and some media attention, I'm the guy trying to get more people aware of my show. Entertainment editors expect to hear from people like me and publicists but they don't usually hear from fans that much. One more thing I have to do yet this afternoon is confirm a meeting for next week with the folks at Via Rail. I'm trying to set up a cross country campus tour for the fall which would be way too much fun. I'll tell you all more about that next week sometime. I'll also do another Vlog sometime next week to answer more of your questions about stuff. Don't forget that the show is on tonight and keep spreading the word. Have a great long weekend everyone. JR
Best F'n Band
I'm about to head out and deliver next weeks show to the networks because as you all know, not only am I the writer, producer, segment producer, host, and director of this low budget little show of mine but I'm also the delivery guy who makes sure the show actually gets delivered to the station each week on time. Maybe someday I'll look back at all this crazy ass shit and think that it was actually pretty funny that I was the guy who had to deliver the show to the station each week because I didn't really have anyone else around to do it for me. Unfortunately right now, I'm up to my ass in crap that needs to be taken care of before the weekend and I'm freaking out a little bit. Most shows have a staff to work on them so that the writers and people who need to be funny can spend their time thinking about being funny! Screw that, I was suppose to have this show delivered by noon today and staff usually likes getting paid once and awhile. I aint got enough money kicking around anymore to pay guys and everybody has to make a little money in life right, so guys like Shane who have helped out a ton on the show over the last year or so, finally have to get out and get a real job. Unless of course Shane makes it big with his new band "Croc Myle" If that happens then he can hire me someday because I'm pretty good at delivering stuff under pressure. I could take the stacks of CD's to record stores and occasionally sell autographed pictures of the band on ebay. Check it out, Shane sent me this picture of the band and I'm going to keep it until they make it big and then sell it for hundreds of dollars. Click here and you can hear one of their songs. It's called "Best Fucking Band" Oh crap, I've gotta go now because the show just finished being dubbed onto the beta tape that I have to deliver to the station. Stay tuned for more updates on Shane's rise to stardom as a punk rock superstar or check out the message board once and a while because Shane is cool about making posts and staying in touch with all of you like I do right here in my blog! Rock on Shane and big up to all of you out there! JR
Narrow minded "A" holes!
So I decide to stop in to this store not too far from where I live a few minutes ago.The store only sells outdoor and camping gear ect.and because I'm looking for a canoe these days to have up at the cottage, I figure this is the best place for me to shop for one! I start talking to a really cool guy and girl at the shop about boats and shit and I mention that I have a Tv show on the air in case I might be able to get a little better price on a canoe in exchange for some ad space in the show or something. They think it's a great idea and get their manager dude so that I can bounce the idea off of him. Dude comes out and as he continues reading some papers he is holding,he ask what he can do for me.I start telling him about the show and some of the contra deals we have with other local business's ect and the entire time I'm talking to him,he never once looks up at me.He just keeps reading these papers and mumbling like he is paying attention to me still. Suddenly he looks up at me and says he isn't interested in Advertising on TV and ask me if that's all I needed to ask him about.I tell him that I'm not a sales man and I'm not selling television advertising,I was just wondering if he might be interested in doing some sort of contra deal for a better price on a canoe or something like that because I have a Tv show and as I try explaining to him why I'm even mentioning this to him he goes back into his turtle imitation. Finally I realize that I'm dealing with a total dick here who is one of those narrow minded "A" holes that doesn't care about anything other than his shrinking retail business and how he's always getting screwed by the man or something along those lines! So I look at the guy who I was originally talking to and kind of shrug my shoulders as if to say,"Wow,your boss is a real dick head"! There was an uncomfortable silence for two seconds before I said "Ok so I guess this wasn't such a good idea to mention to your manager after all"and I laughed a little to lighten the mood as I said goodbye. I can't relate to people like that.I get that sometimes folks are busy and they don't always have time to talk to people and maybe sometimes a guy like this has other more important stuff on his mind but I don't get how people can be such ignorant jerk-offs! I hate when people treat other people badly for no real reason and I really hate it when it me who they are treating with such a lack of respect. They have no sense of common courtesy and it makes me want to tell them that I feel bad for them. They must be such lonely miserable people and it's sad how pathetic they are.Even though they themselves know this, they must think nobody else can see it.Too bad it turns them all into such "A"holes! I should tell you all what shop it was that I was at today but I won't! I really should, but I won't.I really want to,but I won't. Don't be mean or disrespectful to people if you can help it Ok guy's! There are way too many "a"holes in the world already. Talk to you all later,if I don't stop now for sure I'll tell all of you which store I was in this afternoon. Later guys, JR
What's with all those cards on the wall?
Maybe I should start doing a Vlog each week where I discuss and answer questions I get from some of you. If that sounds like a good idea then click here and check out this weeks Vlog! JR
Coors Light And Cucumber Rolls
What a great day it is out there today. I missed the first part of it because I slept in late but I didn't get home till around 3:00am last night. There is a cool new place in Hess village called KOI so I thought we should check it out. They have a great patio, fantastic sushi which I'm kinda into now because it makes me feel like I'm eating healthier and as I found out at around 1:30am, they have two more floors to the place. We ended up hanging out on the third floor kicking back to eighties music, it was a good time. Chris and the folks at KOI couldn't have possible been any nicer to me which is very much appreciated when your just some goofball late night TV guy. I always appreciate it when people do stuff for me that they don't actually have to. Having the Trailer Park Boys appear on the show last night for example was amazing! It was so cool of them to agree to appear on the show as a way to help me out a little bit and keep things rolling along for myself. Good ratings are what T.V. is all about to most people in the industry and having well known celebrities on the show once in awhile maybe starts making a few people in the media begin to think that maybe they are the only ones out there who haven't really noticed this low budget little show of mine yet. Anyways, enough rambling on here, its just great to be back on TV again and it's cool to still have a few people in my corner pulling for me.What's really cool is that a few of those people happen to be well known and very popular celebrities type people but obviously it's even more important to know that I have all you guy's out there still pulling for me and doing what you can! Ill touch base again with you all really soon Ok. Later. JR
The Ratings Are In
It's Friday and about time I made another blog, wouldn't you say guys? I still haven't gotten used to the fact that the show is back on the air again. I guess sometimes you can spend so much time working towards something that when you actually get there, you're not always sure what to do now that you're there. In my case, I'm back on TV again and looking forward to airing some of the new shows we have been working on. There are a couple old clips in tonight's episode, but most of the footage is new and has never been aired before. Over the next few weeks, the show will continue to evolve into the kind of show I want to have this fall on the network. Last week was a pretty good start from what I'm hearing. Airing at the same time as all the big boys on Friday nights is definitely a bit of a concern, because it's also a change of timeslot for me, but we did way better than Jimmy Kimmel, The Late Show with David Letterman and South Park with females 18+ according to the Nielsen Ratings. With males 18+ we held our own and last week was the show's first week back on the air. It's great to have such cool fans that are willing to take the time to email people and spread the word about the show being back on the air. Without any promotion for the show on the network, I guess all I have is you guys, so keep it up everyone. If I can get on a bit of a roll here and pull some okay ratings over the summer, I'm sure I'll get my shot at that network deal this fall. This afternoon, I think we are going to head out and shoot some footage with another new character that I want to try out this summer. Branden spent a little bit of time working on the costume for me and I think it turned out pretty good. Check out these pics:
Who said that making a comedy show isn't any fun? Oh ya, that was me who said that! Well, it's good to have a few laughs again and be able to relax a little bit and have some fun. Shooting video and goofing off used to always be so much fun. It's nice that it's starting to feel like that again! Have a great weekend everyone, I'll keep working away here, maybe head out tonight to sit on a patio somewhere and be checking out the message board to see what people are saying these days. On Sunday night, I'll be home watching Entourage, which has definitely become my favourite new show on television. Bu bye, JR
Hand Puppets!
Hey guy's,I feel kinda bad that I haven't been able to make to many blogs lately and this one isn't going to be all that great either because I'm super bagged and I still have a bunch of shit to do yet before I crash. A journalist from some internet magazine thing emailed me about doing an interview with her and I promised that I would answer some questions for her if she sent them to me tonight. So I still have to do that tonight at some point as well as a few other things.Dam I'm tired!!!!! Maybe I'm dieing! I get tired really easy all the time now. What if I found out that I'm dieing and on my show each week I started airing footage of me doing all kinds of stuff that I really wanted to do before I died! That would be a pretty cool show I think. The last few episodes would be kind of boring because maybe I would have to use hand puppets to act out stuff that I wasn't strong enough to do any more but other than that,it would be a really cool show I think. I'll make a blog Friday for sure to fill you guy's in on how my week looked but I can tell you now that I went to see Wedding Crashers last night. It was funny and totally worth going to see for a few laughs. Later guys,I gotta stay in the groove here for a little bit longer. JR
Screw That!
I was about to start going through more Dogboy footage that needs to be cut down one of these days so we can get it off the system and make a little room in the computer but "screw that"! It just stopped raining out and I feel like going outside. Maybe I'll slide over to Chapters and catch up on some skate magazines or look for a book to start reading. I don't read very much anymore and I feel like I'm getting dumber by the day. My short term memory is really crappy these days and I think that reading might sharpen my brain up a little. I'll probably get a coffee as well although I think I drink too much of it now but who cares. I saved twenty bucks yesterday on a pair of cotton shorts that I bought at American Eagle in the mall. I went in there to get a buddy of mine a birthday present and bought myself these shorts instead. I've got my own TV show again. I deserve a new pair of shorts right?!!!! Ok, I'm taking off now. I'll do some of this work stuff later on before Entourage starts tonight. Hey the sun is stating to shine out there now. Later guys, JR
Rainy Day Recap
A rainy Sunday afternoon like this one gives me a good chance to spend a few hours to look at and edit more new footage for the show and catch up on some stuff that I have let slide over the last few weeks. So that's what I'm up to for the rest of the day probably. I plan on finally getting back to a few of you who have emailed me lately as well. It's nice to hear from so many people who mentioned that they caught the show last night for the first time ever.I think that's awesome! Especially because it was mostly filled with footage that has previously been aired on the show in the past which isn't that big a deal for those of you who have never actually seen the show before. To all of you, it would be all new stuff, which is very cool. If Saturday nights has always been the night you go out and Friday nights are the night you stay home or at least get home early, then maybe I can anticipate hearing from even more people who haven't ever seen the show or any of these old clips before! To those of you who have been following the show for while now,I guess seeing clips you have watched a few times already now would be a bit of a drag if you were expecting us to come out of the box this weekend with the best new stuff we've got! Keep in mind that without the advantage of having any network promotion for the show regarding when it's on ect.I figured that it might take a few weeks for people to find out that the show is even on the air again. That's one of the reasons why we are waiting a few weeks to air some of the new stuff we have been shooting.Other reasons include another project that is potentially in play now for me so I have to figure out exactly how and when I should air new footage these days ..... I think next weeks episodes is worth watching though! There are still going to be some previously aired clips featured but there will be lots of footage that hasn't been seen by any of you in the show next week as well. I would love to someday see if the network would be interested in letting me host some sort of Network produced latenight talkshow so expect me to start trying to somehow lure more and more big time celebrities and music act's to come on my low budget little show this summer! It's going to be tough but sometimes half the fun is in trying!!!!!!! I'll talk more about the new format and stuff like that another time.Lot's of you seem interested in what I'm planning to do now that the show is one the air agian. For those of you who can't get the show where you live in Canada,I'll disscuss that a little more later on this week as well. It's back to work for me now,I hope you are all having a great weekend. Later, JR
Tonight's The Big Night
Hey guys, after two giant steps forward, a hundred thousand or so steps backwards, six or seven more steps forward, three or four more steps backwards, a bunch more steps forward again followed by some more steps backwards and into another giant hole, I'm finally back to moving in the right direction again. Who knows what the next few months will bring but I’m looking forward to finding out! Tonight is the big night! The show is back on the air again and it’s a pretty cool feeling. It’s been great to be able to stay in touch with all of you on the internet over the last eight months or so but knowing that I’m going to be on your televisions tonight is pretty damn cool. I’m not going to all of a sudden stop showing up here on your computer screens or anything and as a matter of fact, if you click here you can see me right now. CLICK HERE for some vlog action! Keep spreading the word everyone and thanks again for sticking with me all this time. JR
Nickels
I just got back from a late lunch at a nearby diner that a buddy and me go to pretty much once a week. After lunch, we always play a game of who can get the nickel closest to the curb in the parking lot. The loser buys lunch the next week. I lost today, but I was distracted. Two girls from a car parked next to where we were playing rolled down their window and asked if I was JR DIGS. Suddenly, I felt like the spotlight was on me and it screwed up the rhythm of my usually smooth toss of the nickel. At one point, the one girl yelled out, "Is your show on the air anymore?" and my buddy told them it goes back on the air this Friday at midnight on CH TV. "Now two more people know your show is on the air," he mumbled to me as he tossed his nickel flush up against the curb. I guess that's the only way for anyone to find out the show is back on the air. I'll literally have to keep telling people and maybe email them. It was difficult enough to get the show back on the air at all, never mind trying to get a little promotion for it on the network. And I don't see that happening any time soon, which is why it's so cool to hear from people like Michelle in Hamilton, who has been emailing tons of local radio stations and newspapers to see if they will write or talk about the show a little bit now that it is back on the air. Sometimes a fan emailing a network, a radio station or a newspaper editor has more impact than me doing it myself. I think sometimes people in the media think wow, this guy has fans who really like his show, maybe this is worth writing about. I guess I should get back to doing some writing of my own here. There is a bunch of details and paper work and stuff like that which has to be done each week for the network, and the last time I checked, I didn't have any assistants or secretaries or people to speak of who can take care of this shit for me, so I should get back to it. Keep spreading the word guys, I appreciate it. JR
I'M BACK
Hey guys, the rumours are true! Well, I guess it wasn't really a rumour about me getting back on the air this week, because it came from me last Friday in my blog. That's something worth mentioning, actually. The only place I even make posts on the internet is right here in my blog, so to those of you who have emailed me about message boards and other places on the internet, just know that if it ain't right here, it ain't me! I hope the rest of you who have been emailing me lately know that I' ve been reading all your emails and it's awesome to hear from you all, but I hate giving super short responses to emails and I just haven't had the time lately to respond to that many of you. I'll do it for sure, as soon as I have a little bit of time, because I really do appreciate hearing from all of you. You guys are the best! The show has been off the air for almost eight months now and all of you have stuck with me all this time. How cool is that for me? Pretty damn cool, I'd say! I'm sure that a few more people will start checking out the website once the show is back on the air this weekend, but it's you guys who are the ones who hung in there with me when there wasn't even a show on the air. You guys really are the best! So here is the lowdown for this weekend. The show will air on Saturday nights, like it used to in a couple places in the country, but in Ontario and in B.C., the show will air on Friday nights at midnight for the rest of the summer. It's going to be tough running against Letterman, Leno, Kimmel, The Simpsons and everything else that's on Friday nights at midnight, but there isn't much I can do about that. Maybe I'll get into some of the issues of scheduling and other crap like that another day, but for now, I'm just happy I somehow got the show back on the air at all, so why burn myself out! It's a good day! Start spreading the word, everyone: "The JR DIGS Show" is back on the air this Friday night and you guys are the ones who helped make that happen. With all your emails to the network and continued support, I'm still living the dream... Later guys, I gotta start emailing some entertainment reporters and newspaper people to see if I can draw up a little bit of press about the show being back on the air, so that more people will know about it, which might help me pull some decent ratings, which is the next thing I have to somehow pull off! JR
Saturday Night With Sloan
What up guys! I'm still here, I didn't opt for ending this pathetic existence of mine and I'm back to figuring out how in the hell this whole TV thing works in this country. I've got a nice little fan base established, I've got major corporate sponsors who want to support and be affiliated with the show still and if that's not enough, I've still got a talking wiener that I could pull out at any time to boost ratings if I needed to. Don't ever grow up thinking you want to be a TV star, kids. Keep trying to be a hockey player or maybe a rock star. This TV thing is whacked, but you might get some beers bought for you once in a while. I met a couple guys the other night on a patio in Hess Village who were fans of the show and they bought me a beer, so that's how I know this. It's always great meeting good people. On Saturday night at The Kee In Bala, I seemed to be running into a lot of people who used to like the show. It was cool and it makes you feel good, but it's also kind of weird because I'm just some schmuck that some people sometimes recognize as a guy who they have seen on TV. It's just kind of weird sometimes, I'm not sure how to explain it. If I was really rich and famous, I think it would make more sense and I would feel more normal about that stuff, but like I said, I'm just some guy who at the moment, is still just trying to figure out if I should be looking for a job or continue working on my own latenight TV show. I've got yet another meeting this afternoon with the folks at Global to talk about my show, with hopes of it getting back on the air soon. I'll be sure to keep you all posted. It was nice of Rob and the guys at The Kee to hook me up last Saturday night, because Sloan put on a great show! The patio was jammed and the band was totally into it. I had a great night! Last night, I stayed in so that I could watch my favourite TV show, Entourage, which is into its second season. If any of you are into this show as much as I am, let me know. If there are enough of you interested in me talking about it here, I'll start recapping what's going on and what I think is going to happen. Turtle is the best, but Vince's agent is without a doubt, the most awesome character on the show. I think season one is out on DVD, so if any of you haven't seen the series, you should go rent it. I guess I should get back to other stuff right now and I should probably post a Vlog one of these days again. It's been a while since I have done that. See ya guys, JR
