What up Jay?

No word from Jay yet.I hope he isn't just some "a"hole who thought he would email me in a fit of random babble while spewing more negativity onto the internet.
I am actually looking forward to hearing back from him with hopes that we all might learn something about my show throughout an ongoing discussion about what a Tv show looks like.

I talked with a publicists person today about setting up an interview with Stephen Baldwin who is in Hamilton over the next few days shooting a movie.
Note:I have an interesting Stephen Baldwin story but I'll wait until I find out for sure about this interview before I tell it.

It sounded like getting five minutes with him wouldn't be any problem at all until I talked with her again a few hours later and she had kind of changed her tune! It all of a sudden sounded like someone must have told her that my show is just some stupid little late night thing that wasn't worthy of Mr. Baldwin's time or something like that. I'll keep you guy's posted.....

I had dinner tonight at my sisters house which was nice because I hardly ever see her any more but it would be stupid of me to start rippin on little buckster here in my blog because she told me that she has been reading it lately.Sorry we had to leave right after we ate Buck. Thanks for the chow!

We went to see the movie Broken Flowers. It probably won't be playing much longer at the movie Theatre and I like seeing stuff on the big screen. The small screen is a good place to watch The Amazing Race, not Bill Murray being brilliant again.I liked the movie. It was super slow and I liked it!

Later guy's,

Independent Film Makers!

Continue checking my blog over the next couple of weeks for details on how to submit your scripts to be considered for a brand new television series that is currently being developed for the network.
The series will feature eight up and coming film makers and their real life struggles to "live the dream" a make the low budget masterpiece they have been writing and thinking about all these years.....

If you were looking for a reason to finish that darn script you have been working on,this is it guys.

I'll give you more details as soon as I can but in the meantime, polish up and finish that script you have been working on and start thinking more realistically about how you are actually going to make your movie!

............Stop thinking about it and do it,or STOP talking about doing it because if you aren't ever going to actually do it, then why do you keep talking about doing it?
As for me,I'm going to the cottage for the weekend.I'm going to stop and get a sausage and egg Mcmuffin thing,a large oj and a coffee and I plan to be asleep on the dock all afternoon......

Have a good weekend guys.

Testing 1, 2, 3...

No time to get into anything interesting right now guys. I'm going to get my hair cut right now and then I am heading back into the big smoke for the afternoon for some meeting that I have set up.You guys don't care about that kind of crap so why bother getting into any of the boring details right?

Click Here to look at some video I just shot while testing a new microphone out. It's not funny or amusing or anything, so don't waste your time looking at it if you need to be entertained right now! It's just some video that I shot a few minutes ago while testing out a new microphone as I've already mentioned. I don't even know why I'm putting it on the site here except that some of the footage is of my big toe that was almost sliced off yesterday.

There is some stuff I wanted to pass along to you guys regarding "Day of John" and a new television series I'm developing but I'll have to do that another time, probably on Saturday.

Gotta Fly,
JR

Back to livin the dream.....

I case you guys were thinking that I have gone all Hollywood on you because I haven't even posted a blog yet this week,it's quite the opposite.

Things are definitely back to normal again and I know that for sure because it's almost 2:00am and I just got home from delivering this weeks show that airs on Friday night.

It's been a busy week because I have had to catch up on a ton of stuff that I didn't have time to deal with the last few weeks while the film festival was on.

Yep,there's nothing like spending almost sixteen straight hours editing footage because you have to get a dam show delivered to remind me that I aint no movie star.I'm just some putz trying to keep his lowbudget little Tv show o the air!

I'll blog at you guys a little more later.Right now I'm going to eat the ham sub I just picked up and then try and get some sleep.

Closing Night Gala Screening&Party

For ten days in September, the Toronto International Film festival consumed the city as "A"List celebrities invaded day after day until it almost felt normal to see Bono from U2 stroll into a party, say hi to some people and then shuffle out before he created too much of a scene.

But almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades so it wasn't normal at all to have Bono walk right by me at the party I was at last night and when he left, the mob scene he created sure didn't make things feel any more normal, that's for sure.

Earlier in the week I think I was mentioning something about all these film festival parties and how most of them kinda sucked or at least they did for me because being at them always made me feel like the party in the VIP room was probably more fun than where I was and if I somehow ended up knowing someone who could get me into the private party in that roped off section at the back, everyone in there always seemed to be preoccupied with the party they were going to next which would be another place I probably couldn't get into.........

......well it turns out that last night I was fortunate enough to be at the right party with the right people and I had a riteous time which was a fantastic way to end my first real Film Festival experience.I've been at TIFF before as most of you know who have been watching the show for a few years but I was never actually invited to any funtions at the festival before! This is the first year I have even been to any of the parties for example.

Last night "Edison" was screened at the Elgin Theatre to close out the festival. After the screening, everyone there is invited to the closing Gala Party and then they roll up the red carpets again until next year.
Now keep in mind,I'm just some schmuck who has a dumb little latenight Canadian Tv show and I was only "in" one of the films at the festival,it wasn't actually my film.So of coarse,I didn't get invited to the big Gala Screening and closing night party, but Chris Nash did,he had a film in the festival. It's just lucky for me that Chris hates all that kind of crap which is why he ended up giving his invitation to me.Chris is a great guy and I can't wait to work with him on his next film but I'll talk about that stuff another time, you guys want to hear about why I had such a great time last night.

This is already becoming too long of a blog to read so I'll cut to the chase here.I had only been at the party for a few minutes when I ran into a friend of mine that I have known for a few years now.Dan recently became a bigtime suit in the movie making business here in Canada.I guess he was always kind of a big cheese but I never really knew that about him. He's a really great guy and I like knowing good people."Dan's good people"that's all I ever really needed to know about him I guess.

................anyways,it turns out that Dan has worked with the producer of the closing night film in the past so they know eachother pretty well and before I know it,I'm being introduced to a major, Major, MAJOR Hollywood player. It was a thrilling experience I will never forget.

Sudenly I find myself hangin out at this private party with a handfull of other people including the cast of the film . Did I mention who was in this film yet?
Kevin Spacey,Morgan Freeman,Justin Timberlake,Dylan McDermott and LL Cool J

Earlier I mentioned that Bono came rolling into this private party and stayed for about two minutes which was pretty cool and it was nice to be introduced to well known actors like Dylan McDermott and it absolutely would have been cool to meet Morgan Freeman who I admire so much as an actor, but he didn't show up for the after party. You know who did though?

Friggin LL Cool J,thats right, LL F'n Cool J........are you kidding me......

"Heels tall, bikini small, she says, she likes, the ocean"..there he was, just kickin back all smiles and having a great time. The guy couldn't have been nicer. He looked sharp and he had more charisma than anyone I have ever met. Seriously,he was awesome!
He walked by us at one point so I pipe up "LL I'm JR,two letters just like you, what do you make of that"? Five minutes later we were all goofin around and laughing and not once did he pretend he had to rush off to be somewhere else even though he really wasn't going anywhere.
That set the tone for the rest of the night for sure and I had a great one.Dan was cool about introducing me to lots of people he knew and it was nice to talk, drink, eat and laugh for a change at one of these parties.Good people = good times I guess. It was a fantastic way to remember my first actual Film Festival experience.I'm glad I don't have to top last night because there is no way I cold do it. I was having so much fun that I didn't even end up going over to say hi to Daryle Sittler who is one of my all time favorite hockey players.Later in the night I was thinking hey, where's #27 but he had left by then.

Aside from last night, there's lots of other stuff that has happened over the last ten days as well that I've been meaning to talk about here in my blog but I didn't always have the time.Maybe what I'll do is make some time on Monday or maybe on Tuesday to reflect on things a little more and then do one last recap of TIFF 2005.Not only are these blogs meant to keep you guy's in the loop with what I may be up to on any given day but it also gives me a chance to sometimes formulate thoughts with regards to whats happening in my life on a week to week basis.I like that.
I always like getting emails from you guy's as well and maybe half the reason some of you send them to me is because you have been reading my blog and you feel like you have a better sense of what's going on with me these days which is very cool.

I use the word cool a lot don't I? Oh well.......I guess I had better rap this up now.

Goin back to Cali.....I don't think so,I'm going to watch Dog The Bounty Hunter.
Later guys,

JR

(REM) Rapid Eye Movement

It was nice to get some desperately needed sleep last night as I fight off this cold that keeps hangin in there for some reason.Maybe its just a quality sleep that I need and I should zipp up to the cottage on Sunday after all this Film Festival stuff raps up on Saturday Night.
I always seem to sleep great up north at the cottage.I think that is exactly what I'm going to do Sunday morning even though I have to be back here by Monday afternoon to start working on next weeks show that has to be delivered by the middle of the week.I was hoping to shoot a bunch of footage today at the festival but it was raining all day long here so I'll have to shoot stuff on Saturday instead.I hope it's not raining again.

I like rainy days like this....REM is really good rainy day music!

Rapid eye movement occurs during a deep sleep or REM sleep which is the kind of quality sleep I crave so much right now. While waiting for someone to get me into the sold out screening of some short films I wanted to see Thursday night,Michael Stripe walked right by me and then stopped to wait for someone to escort him into a different screening.I suppose it would have been cool to walk over to him and say hello so that I could later say that I met Michael Stripe from REM but I didn't.
It's cool that I was standing there beside him like that because I really like his music and there he was, just standing there a few feet away from me! Saying hello would have probably just made us both feel weird and it's not like we were being introduced to eachother by someone we both knew or anything like that, you know what I mean?

That being said,if I was with someone else who could have taken a picture of us together or something like that, well that would have been pretty dam cool. In that case, I would have walked up to him for sure(lol)!

I suppose I have had a few interesting experiences this past week and more than a few new thoughts about celebrity and people like Cameron Diez who go to press conferences to complain about all the poporatzzi taking pictures of them all the time ........oh and I do have a pretty funny story I could tell you all about how I decided not to stop and meet a certain female Actress who is just as stunning in real as she is on the silver screen and it's because I really really, really had to bolt for the washroom.... .... ... ...and well,I'm sure I will have a lot more time after the festival is all rapped up to share some of these thoughs with you here in my blog but unfortunately right now, I gotta get going, so have a great night everyone......

If you are staying in,make sure you watch the show tonight which is a repeat of the episode we shot at Andrew the pycho fans parents house! Andrews mom is adorable!!!

Until then, dig up some good rainy day music, kick back and have a nice night.Later guys,

JR

Day (whatever?)Of The Film Festival

Hey Guy's,
I'm going to make this brief because the reason I came home tonight at a reasonable hour is because I wanted to get another good night sleep.I was feeling alot better today which is actually yesterday because it's after midnight but anyways,I was feeling somewhat better after getting lots of sleep last night (Wednesday nigth) and if I get another good night sleep tonight(Thursday night) I'm hoping I can beat this cold before it has a chance to really knock me on my ass.

I need to be back on track Friday because I have lot's of stuff going on.I spent most of Thursday shooting footage for the show and then I checked out a bunch of short films which was cool. There were some parties to go to again after that but to be honest,I didn't really care if I went to them or not.Besides the fact that I'm still not feeling that great, most of these parties are full of people I probably don't even want to be around.Or maybe it's just that I miss going out with my friends and being with people that I like to laugh with.Or maybe it's more about never really seeing my friends that much anymore and wondering why.......
Then of coarse there is this thing about never being able to get invited to the right party. If you somehow get into the right party and on the right guest list, then there's always a VIP area you can't end up getting into.Let's say you later end up getting into some ultra cool VIP area, well then you find out there is another party everyone is going to that you probably won't be able to get into....... ...

.......obviously I have lots more to say on the subject of celebrity and the fame game but rigth now I just want to go to sleep and get back to feeling normal again.....I'll get back into all of this again another time, right now I need to go to bed.

Goodnight guys,

JR

Nine Minutes Until My Head Explodes.....

Hey guy's,
I can't believe how crappy I feel right now.Sure Im kind of a suck when I'm sick but I swear that my head is about to explode and I can't breath through my nose at all.
If an apple or maybe an Orange gets jammed in my mouth while eating it,I would die right now!

So I'm home for the night and am going to try to get some sleep.I won't be eating any apples or oranges and oh dam......now Im starting to cough.

Have a nice nigth everyone, mine is going to suck!

Which One Is It?

Me in the low budget epic "Day of John" that screened last night at the Toronto International Film Festival?

OR

A snap shot of me just minutes before I had to drag my sorry ass out of bed this morning because I had some microphones and equipment that needed to be returned?

Hello JR.
Just got back from the ROM........thanks for letting me get a few pics of you and Nash. Day of John was awesome!! Unfortunately I missed the start.....I was still standing in the rush line. I got in just a few minutes before your scene. Next time I need a demon summoned, I know who to call. That was my favorite short, along with that Still Life one, and the hilarious Racist Brick. Be sure to let Mr. Nash know that I think he kicked ass. You are a super nice guy, and it was cool meeting you. I hope your show really picks up, and that noone mistakes you for Tom Baker.
Cheers,
Shane.

Hey Shane,
Nice meeting you.
That sucks that you missed the first part of the movie but I'm glad you got in to see most of it.The screening was totally sold out which is cool but I guess that's why it took so long for them to decide how many people from the rush line they would be able to eventually let in to the theatre.
Thanks alot for coming down to support us on the film.I'm really proud of Nash.He made a great little film with no money and it's nice to know people appreciate his work.
It's almost 5:00am now so I guess I had better crash.I just got home a few minutes ago and noticed your email here so I thought I would bounce one back to you.
Thanks again and nice meeting you.

The Big Day....The Day Of John!

I got caught up on a little bit of sleep last night which is nice.We went to a late movie but no parties or late dinner after that which would have kept me out all night, just straight home to crash.I really needed to be asleep before 2:00am for a change.

Most of yesterday afternoon was spent in Toronto shooting footage for the documentary film project that I have been working on for a long long time now.Its an ongoing project of mine.

It's crazy how many huge movie stars are in Toronto for TIFF right now.I walked beside, yelled out to,looked at from across the street and or got to meet people like Cuba Gooding jr,the dude from The Matrix,Harvey Kitell and Claire Danes just to name a few of them.Trying to convince Phillip Seymore Hoffman to stick around for another week so that he could check out my show on Tv still makes me kinda laugh to myself a little.

With all these big stars walking around you see a few popporatzzi dudes hanging around as well.My old pal Shane Cunningham was with me yesterday to help out with some camera work and after we had rapped up shooting, we went to go grab a hotdog to eat.
While on are way down the street,we both hear the fast action clicking sound of a camera and as I look to my right I see one of these dudes snapping pictures of me.
You know how you always here about stars freak out on these guys and stuff like that. Not me man,it was pretty dam cool.I know that sounds shallow and vain of me but that's never happened to me before.I'm just some schmuck on latenight television in Canada.

Shane yelled out to him and said"you know who this is right".The guy said"ya,he's got a show on Tv"then Shane say's and he's in his first movie which is screening at the festival which then inspired the dude to start snapping off a gabillion more pictures as we walked away.

All the glitz and glamour of the festival can sure make a guy want to be a part of showbiz I tell ya! Good thing I know I'm just some schmuck with a dumb little latenight Tv show.
But hey, that doesn't mean I can't enjoy being a part of the festival for a change right? This the big day!!! The Day Of John!

I'm looking forward to seeing some of you tonight at the screening.I hear that the tickets are all sold out but there are always rush tickets held back and made available for people who show up early and get in line.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone. I'll continue updating my blog as much as I can over the next week while the festival is running.Maybe I will try and post a couple vlogs as well, that might be a fun thing to do.

Later guy's,

JR

Last Nights Schmoozfest

I'm going to do my best to post as many Blogs on the site as I can over the ten days of the Film Festival but when you get home at 4:50am in the morning it kind of cuts into the amount of time I've got to do stuff like this the next day!

Last night was the Big Schmoozfest Party at CityTv that they televise each year.We were suppose to walk the red carpet which is something I have never done before nor have I ever been invited to this party before! When we arrived their was some confusion regarding how many of us were suppose to be in are group and then Nash started feeling awkward about standing their basically asking if we could "please" all go in together.Eventually we decided to just go in the back door so we could get inside and meet some people we knew were going to be there.Actually I think Nash's exact words were "F it....lets just get in there and start drinking their free F'n booze"(lol)

So that's what we did for the first hours and a half or so.......I had a way better time last night than I did at the Gala Party the night before! I think we might have even switched a couple of the channels on some of the Tv's that were everywhere becuase my show was on last nigth at midnight.

The french toast I ended up eating around 3:30am was the perfect night cap to a pretty fun night.Tonight I hope to go see a movie but I'm not sure which one yet.I might spend the afternoon downtown star gazing and shopping for a new shirt to wear.Maybe some cool new socks as well.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend and I really hope to get to see some of you Sunday nigth at the screening of "Day Of John".We will probably have a camera there to shoot some footage for the documentary that I have been working on for the last gabillion years. It would be cool to interview some of you guy's.

Ok I gotta fly,later,

JR

Day One Of The Film Festival

The Toronto International Film Festival or (TIFF) began last night and unlike the last couple years when I have had to sneak in to film screenings and parties if I wanted to go to them, this year I am in one of the films being screened at the festival so it looks like I'm on a couple of guest lists and will be invited to a few functions. It's weird!

To actually have an invitation to the screening of the opening film and the party afterwards was a first for me. That being said I blew off the screening so that I could spend the hour with Martin Streek live on the radio last night. It was a great way to kick off the festival....

I just read the blog about the radio thing tonight, that's awesome! Several months after the guy's from The Edge's morning show were making fun of you, you come back to the station with your show back on the air, promoting the film your in that's showing at the Toronto International Film Festival!
HOW AWESOME IS THAT?!?!?
-Jims

Martin Streek is a very cool guy and I really appreciate that he let me hang out with him last night during his radio show on 102.1 The Edge. We had a ton of laughs, it was good fun! Life is way too short and this business is way too mind boggling most of the time for me to be anything but jacked up about the good stuff that occasionally happens to you as your pluggin away and pushing onward!

I'll probably go on Martin's show again sometime in the near future and you know what, its really, really, really nice to know that he would want me to.

You know what else? I had way more fun giving out free Pizza Pizza to people with Martin Streek than I had at the big fancy opening gala party I went to after that.

Here is a picture of me that someone took around 12:30am last night at the party.

Ok maybe this is me in Chris Nash's film "Day of John" but I pretty much wanted to kill myself last night at this party. See none of my friends really give a crap about going to these parties filled with people acting cool because they somehow got invited to this big party. Chris and some of the other guys didn't go because they wanted to check out the midnight screening of a film Sara Silverman is in. So I was pretty much on my own which pretty much sucks. There were people I ran into that I know or who know me but that's no fun. That's just schmoozing!

Maybe sneaking in to these parties and functions was always what was fun about them. I'm looking forward to Sunday nights screening of Nash's film. It would be great to see some of you guys there.

And now on to day two of this years Festival...

Later,
JR

Live on the Radio

Hey guys, some of you may have noticed that we have taken the message board off the site until new shows begin airing again later this fall. It seemed like most of you were more interested in emailing me directly rather than posting on the message board anyways.

I've gotten quite a few emails lately about the screening of "Day of John" at this years Toronto International Film Festival and it's great to hear how interested you guys are in my first ever gig on the big screen.

Hey JR, I was just wondering, have you confirmed September 11th at 9:00pm as the first public screening of 'Day of John' yet? I was planning on going but I don't want to show up and find out I should have been there a couple of hours ago. Also, will you be at the screening?

Hey Jr, Sorry to bother you but I was wondering when you'll be going to one of the screenings of Day of John?, cause my sister and I are big fans and we would really like to come. Thanks

Hello JR. I would like to check out your acting debut here in the T-dot. Can you tell me what time it plays next Sunday at the ROM? Oh ya, and I still think you look like Tom Baker from Doctor Who. Your show was funny on Friday. I like when you fuck with telemarketers. It's my favorite. Cheers

Thanks guys and here's the low down in case I haven't gotten back to a couple of you yet...

I will definitely be at the first screening this Sunday night at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) at 9:00pm. You can buy tickets on-line or show up really early on Sunday night and get in the rush line in case there are any left over tickets or people don't show up who have purchased tickets already.

The atmosphere in and around the Film Festival is pretty damn cool and there are lots of big name stars everywhere! I can't wait to see the Film at the ROM which is an amazing place to screen a film and if a few of you guys are there to watch it with me on Sunday I think it will be even better.

If you can't make it on Sunday then slide by the street level studio of 102.1 the Edge tonight around 7:00pm. I'm going on the radio with Martin Streek to promote the film. We are going to give out some free Pizza Pizza and have some fun live on the radio.

Keep the emails coming , phone in to the radio station tonight, show up Sunday night if you can and I'll continue doing the best that I can to "keep livin the dream".

Five hours later....

I have been trying to fall back to sleep for over an hour now but have finally conceded that it aint going to happen and now I'm up and screwed for the entire day.

I have always been a guy who needed his eight hours of sleep to feel energized, recharged and ready to slam through another day.Without a full night sleep,I've always felt not quite myself and lacked that skip in my step that kept me ahead of the pack each day. It's been that way as long as I can remember.

The problem now is that I use to be able to sleep-in no problem.I have always been a bit of a night hawk.Going to bed at 2:00am simple meant that I would wake up at 10:00am which was never a problem and it fit my schedule perfectly. When I went to school,I don't think I ever had a class before 10:30am and after I finished school I opened my own Skateboard shop which didn't open until 11:00am each morning.

Now that I am in the bushiness of making television for a living,I still don't usually have to be anywhere before 10:30 or 11:00am on any given day.If I stay up late which I don't do that much anymore,it's still no big deal except that I can't seem to sleep in any more. The last few years have been pretty stressful I have to admit but it's like I can't ever relax enough to even get a normal nights sleep. As soon as I wake up in the morning I get thinking of all kinds of the stupid shit I have going on and then I'm pouched like this morning.
I went to bed at around 2:20am and five hours later I'm awake and unable to fall back asleep. It really sucks because I have a busy day ahead of me and I need to be on the ball when meeting with some of these people today but here I am with that not quite myself feeling!

I guess that's why I have started going to bed a little early each night the last few years. No matter what time I crash at night, I always seem to wake up way before 10:00am like I did in the good old days when my head wasn't so packed full of shit to deal with on a daily basis.

So I'm up and movin on with my day here.I never use to drink coffee but I can tell you right now,I'll probably have two cups of it by 9:30am even though I should still be sleeping at that time in the morning.

Have a good day everyone and stay off the coffee.I'm pretty sure it's not all that good for you.
Later,

JR

Two times this week now!

I'm making a blog right now mostly out of guilt..........

You guy's have always been amazingly cool to me.You have been supportive, loyal and have continued to stay interested in my so called career and life (which is basically the same thing) all this time so the least I can do is make a few blogs once in a while right?

Just because I am ass backwards busy these days,it doesn't mean I can't find a few minutes a couple times a week to touch base right?

But what if I can't really think of anything interesting to tell you guys about or am not allowed to tell you about stuff that might have been discussed today in one of the meeting I was in.See then what do I do?

What do I talk about right now while I'm ridding myself of guilt and making my second blog of the week?

Should I talk about the fact that I can't remember my girlfriends phone number which is why I haven't called her back all day today.I can remember her work number but she got a new cell phone and I can't remember the number that she told me a thousand times so that I wouldn't forget it!

Hey maybe I should talk about the fact that I do in fact kinda have a girlfriend? Sometimes I get emails asking me if I do, so maybe that is something worth mentioning here?

Maybe I should talk about how completely pissed she would be if she read this blog. Saying I kinda have a girlfriend would make her lose her mind, you guy's have no idea. My"girlfriend" is 100% full of "spirit" which is awesome most of the time. Most of the time means that some of the time, all that "spirit" can make things, well lets say.......... Interesting! I remember one time when she ........... mmm no way man! I should find out first if she ever reads these blogs!

Dam I wish I could remember that number.I should have written it down! I had to blow off are movie night last night because I had way too much stuff to do and we we ended up cutting this weeks show together until about 1:30am.You guys aren't the only ones who haven't heard from me in a while.......

I'm going to go now.I'll be back soon though,I promise!(lol)
Later guys,

JR
