A hump day holiday.
A few minutes ago, dude at the Mac's store asked me what my postal code was while I was paying for the stuff I was buying from him. What's dude need my postal for? I hate giving people information like that for no reason. Maybe he should have given me five cents off my purchase or something! I didn't want to bother getting into a discussion about why he was asking for my postal code because I don't really care why he wants people's postal codes so I just lied and gave him a made up postal code. I have a couple more hours of work to do today on this weeks episode and after I get it delivered I am heading into Toronto to meet a couple more film makers about making movies later this summer for the series. After that I'm meeting some people for dinner and then who knows what might happen.I'm taking the night off so I'm up for anything and I'll be in the big city so quick email me if you want to hook up somewhere tonight.

What a difference a week makes. It was cold and kind of crappy out on the long weekend but this weekend it's been perfect. I'm glad yesterday turned out to be so nice because I was playing golf at a charity golf tournament. I don't usually talk all that much in my blog anymore about really super personal stuff because well, I just don't. That being said, sometimes maybe it's a good idea if I do. Lots of people are checking out my blog these days so in this case I feel like this is an opportunity to spread the word about something even more important than my show or this crazy ass pursuit of a network deal. A person who is very close to my family and I was recently diagnosed with Colon Cancer. Initially, news from the doctors wasn't good and to make things worse,a drug that Wendy has needed ended up not being covered by Ohip here in Ontario like it is out West and in Quebec. Wendy has done a great job of explaining the details of her situation in her blog so please Go to www.wendysbattle.com and check it out! Over the summer,a few different charity events are being planned to raise money to help cover some of the cost of the drugs that Wendy is now paying for herself. Yesterdays golf tournament was a huge success and I find it amazing how generous and compassionate people are sometimes. Alot of the people at the golf tournament didn't even know Wendy and were invited by a friend or had become aware of Wendy's situation after hearing about her website and reading her blog.I urge any of you who are interested to do the same. Yesterday was a great day and it was incredible to see so many people rallying to support Wen in her battle against cancer. If you guys have any idea's for things we might be able to do here this summer at jrdigs.com with regards to fund raising, let me know.In the meantime, check out www.wendysbattle.com and read Wendy's blog. It's unbelievable that the richest province in the Country continues to deny the same quality of health care that other Provinces provide to the people who live in those Provinces and the sad thing is that I guess we never really think or worry that much about things like this until we have to. Now that I have to, I hope I can help to begin to change things before one of you guys living here in Ontario have to!
Another Kevin Robertson Review....
"In The Can" and on television tonight on CH in Ontario is "Don & Corey & Dawn" a short by Chris Pozzobon. "Don & Corey & Dawn" combines all the best elements of such acclaimed motion pictures as "Brokeback Mountain" and "Jacob's Ladder"; merged in a sweat-filled orgy of brilliance to create one of the most compelling and complicated psychological character studies ever attempted by a short film. This is a story of an extremely disturbed individual and his struggle to reclaim his sanity. In this follow-up to the immensely popular, "Don & Cory Were Friends"we are introduced to the brand new character, "Dawn"; who is actually the "imaginary representation" of Corey's feelings of "attraction" and "rejection" towards his friend and roommate "Don".Corey's inner struggle to suppress these "secret feelings" has ultimately resulted in his complete mental breakdown. Ultimately, the way in which he chooses to cope with these emotions, is by avoiding them all together; this is accomplished through the creation of an imaginary female named"Dawn". By giving a visual form to his inner turmoil, Corey has created for himself a vessel in which he is able to project and unload all of his "unwanted" feelings upon. As a result "Dawn" becomes a symbol of both his "desire" and his "self-loathing" as through her, he is able to fanaticize about the kind of relationship he only wishes he could have with his roommate "Don",complete with"sing-a-longs and "snugglefights". As the film progresses, we witness the further deterioration of Corey's mental state. The internal balance between "love" and "hate" becomes dangerously unstable as Corey's "self-loathing" (which fuelsthe existence of "Dawn") gradually mutates into an intense "jealousy" of her. That heated jealously inevitably gives rise to primal animal attraction as Corey develops a relentless sex-urgefor his very own imaginary creation. As a result, the "arrangement" that Corey had so carefully crafted in his mind completely collapses upon itself, leaving him in a state of "limbo",with no ability to decipher between fantasy and reality. It is here, that Corey encounters JR's character "Dave" (the mysterious martial artist of the mind) once again. Like "Dawn", "Dave" is also an imaginary creation of Don and Cory. He exists in a cluttered filled garage surrounded by the variousforgotten, neglected and ignored items of the world (including Corey's "true" feelings for Don/Dawn). It is in Dave's magical lair thatCorey is finally confronted and forced to realize the only way tosalvation is by "slamming" the truth. Corey agrees and decided to go tell Don/Dawn how he really feels about them In the end Corey expresses his true feelings to Don/Dawn and a great weight islifted from his shoulders. His "self-loathing" dissipates as the fictitious "Dawn" gets ready to finally leave the house forever; and his newly found self-confidence is rewarded (by his brain)through the introduction of Dawn's imaginary twin sister"Korey", who quickly replaces her and his roommate, as the object of his desire!
Tonight "In The Can"
I spent the afternoon in Toronto in a series of meeting bla bla blaaa bla about the two new series that are currently in development with the network bla bla bla and for the last hour and a half I was in my car making the long drive home in traffic. Howard Stern loops his show all day long so it was great to have some entertaining radio to listen to in all that stop and go traffic. They were completely ripping on Eric "the midget" today, it was hilarious. I think I'm taking the night off and going to a movie.I want to see XMen and if I don't go tonight I might not have a free night for another week or so to see it. "In The Can" and on the tube tonight, expect to see a previously aired episode. A new episode was aired last Friday night and another new episode will be on next Friday night as well. Six more short films are currently in production for the series and you guys will see all of them starting in late June and all of July. I'll keep you posted and up to speed with the show schedule right here in my blog each week. Later guys.
Simon Screwed me...
A long long time ago when American Idol first picked the people who were going to be part of the show,I predicted that the final three would be Catherine Mcphee,Chris and Taylor Hicks. Simon screwed me when he convinced the viewers that the ugly looking dude was a great singer and should be one of the final three. Turns out that he screwed himself in the process because I don't think he ever thought the people would stop voting for Chris who he would have loved to be the next American Idol. Well last night he screwed me again because back when I predicted who the last three would be,I also predicted that Catherine would win it all. I doubt if she will win tonight after Simon's comments from last night but at least she can look all hot and stuff for one more night. "Go Edmonton Go" and hip hip hurray for Catherine Macphee!
A not so long weekend...
Happy long weekend everyone! I'm taking the day off today and heading up North to the cottage. It was fun being away all of last week but it was mostly all work and no play. Friday slide right into the weekend and on Saturday and Sunday we shot Shane's new movie. We got the film in the can around midnight last night after two sixteen hour days of shooting. Today is a do nothing day. Except for the eight hours of footage I have to look at which is in my new laptop. I bought a new laptop on Friday so that I don't have to be here to look at and cut footage anymore. Now I can go anywhere I want to sift through hours and hours of footage. When I said today was a do nothing day, what I really meant was nothing but look at a bunch of hours of footage while hanging out at the cottage. That's about as close as I will probably get over the next little while to doing nothing. At least if I'm up north,I can take a break and hop in my canoe or just stare mindlessly out at the lake and think about nothing but the hours of footage I still have to get through before I crash tonight. I have to be back here Tuesday morning to put this weeks show together so my long weekend getaway won't end up being all that long. It's better than having to sit here all day looking at footage. At least I am at the cottage. In ten minutes I will be in my car drinking a coffee and listening to a little Howard Stern on my S50 on my way up North. Tuesday morning I will be back here doing what I do these days and that is what I was up to on the long weekend. What did you guys do for the long weekend?
"In The Can"Tonight!
Hey guys, it was cool running into some of you this week while I was hoping from city to city shooting stuff for another new series that is in development for the network. The last few nights in Ottawa probably would have been a little more exciting if the Senators would have still been in the playoffs and more people were out having fun at the bars and pubs at night. It's fun to be in a city you have never been to before but to be honest,I was suprised at how dead it was down town. Maybe people just don't go out at night in Ottawa on a Wednesday night? Who knows, maybe it's a good thing that we didn't find some packed crazy ass bar to go to the last few nights. They shacked me up at The Lord Elgin which is a pretty nice hotel and it would have been a shame not to spend any time at my hotel enjoying the good life. It's nice staying in a fancy swanky hotel once in a while.Especially when you aren't the one paying for it! I'm not use to not having to pay for everything myself.I gotta tell ya,it was a pretty awesome feeling. Now I'm back to my real life which means I have a ton of stuff to catch up on after being away all week. A new episode of "In the Can" airs tonight and I have to getting working on next weeks episode or I am never going to get it delivered on time next week. I'll be busy all weekend shooting another movie for the series with Shane Cunningham which looks like it will be hilarious. Shane is shooting "Teen Wolff 3" this weekend. He has a ton of extras and he has put alot of work into getting ready for this weekend. This might be one of the best movies of the summer.I can't wait to let you guys know how things go after we finish shooting on Sunday. Shanes first movie "COPS" is on Saturday night on CH in Ontario at 12:30am in case some of you haven't seen it yet. Tonight's episode which a brand new one features another movie by Pozz called "Don&Corey&Dawn".He spent about the same amount of money$ on this movie as he spent on the first one which was nothing but this time he has added a couple new characters. I'm looking forward to hearing what you guys think of the movie. As for this new series,I did google "canwest JR Digs" like a few of you told me to do and I have to say that I was surprised to see there is some stuff out there about it. Now isn't the time to talk too much about this project. Let's talk more about what on the tube tonight and the episode I am putting together for next week. Who cares about what might be on Tv four months from now when I have a brand new episode airing four hours from now. "Don&Corey&Dawn"... a brand new episode airing Nationally tonight on CH! Tune in and spread the word guys!
It's nice to be noticed...
Looks like I got a little ink in a few different newspapers today. Bill Brioux who writes about television for the Toronto Sun talked a little about my new series in todays paper and I heard that something was written about the show in The Hamilton Spectator today as well. The Burlington Post which is are local newspaper had a story about my series earlier this week but I never got around to picking up a paper to read it.I suspect that the story was about the episode which will feature a film studies class from one of the local high schools. They shot one of the movies you will see in the coming weeks.I'm pretty sure I told you guys about the couple days I spent hanging out at the high school but I'm not sure if I mentioned that a photographer from the post was hangin out with us for the afternoon on day two of shooting. Getting noticed by the media is a big deal if you want people to know you even have a Tv show on the air. It would be awesome if some of you could somehow convince your local newspaper to write something about this new show of mine. Let me know if you have been trying so that I can at least thank you here in my blog! I'm looking forward to getting some new movies on the air in the coming weeks and it would be great if we could get the word out a little more. Any ideas?
ME AND MY S50!
Any of you guys been listening to Howard Stern on Sirius? I just went for a drive in my car to break away from my computer for a little while and I kinda needed to grab a coffee and listen to some Stern. The guys at Keith's Stereo here in Burlington hooked me up with my S50 a while ago now and I haven't listened to one second of regular boring old radio ever since. Radio can be pretty entertaining when it's good radio! It was awesome to be able to drive all the way up to the cottage last weekend and be able to listen to exactly what I wanted to listen to for the entire drive up north. I've been tuned into Alt Nation on channel 22 alot lately and now that they repeat The Howard Stern Show four times a day on Howard 100,I always seem to be able to tune into different sections of his morning show at different times of the day on my way to where ever I am going in my car. With the American set up you can even get the west coast broadcast of Howard's radio show on channel 101 which is cool.Make sure you guys go to Keith's Stereo for your Sirius radio if you want one this summer and for sure tell them that you want the same set up that JR Digs has because it will end up saving you a few bucks! A week ago or so Howard Stern was talking non stop about his new Film Festival. Everyone seems to be all into Film festivals these days which I find kind of interesting. I can't wait to finish shooting the rest of the short films for my new series and then start planning are big coast to coast Campus tour that we are doing in the fall. All thirteen short films that are being produced and featured as part of this new television series will then be screened in campus theatres from coast to coast in the fall of 2006. We are going to take a train across the entire Country so I can't wait to see all you guys in other parts of Canada who have been watching the show. Maybe some of you guys should start making dumb little movies and start sending them to me to put on the site. That would be awesome! Well I guess i should get back to work editing now.I have lots and lots of work to do over the next few days.Next week I am away for most of the week shooting some stuff for another new series I have been asked to do. It looks like this is my first big break and I'll tell you guys more about it when I know more about when it will be on the air and stuff like that! No point in talking too much about stuff that I'm not really suppose to even talk about yet. I just doesn't seem right to completely keep you guys in the dark about stuff I think you deserve to know about. Especially those of you who have been hangin in there with me all these years! Happy times for JR DIGS guys! Thanks for the continued support. Thanks for the emails and thanks for sticking your heads out the windows of Buses and yelling "yo JR DIGS" It's great to hear from you guys!
Press release by Kevin Robertson...
Thanks Kevin,I'll be sending this to anyone and everyone in the media and it would be awesome if you guys sent it to your local media as well. For that matter, send it to everyone you know. Its time to start getting the word out about my new series that kicks off in a few weeks. Press Release: Since 2001, JR Digs has been a fixture on late night television in Canada as host of his own weekly comedy series, "The JR Digs Show". In that time, JR's creative antics and innovative interactions with members of his community has provided his viewers with unforgettable moments of uproarious laughter which continue to bring families and fraternities together in front of their televisions every weekend, in celebration of their newest cultural icon. Over the course of the series, the once "ugly duckling" of paid programming has matured and blossomed into the "sexy swan" of late night Canadian comedy; and in 2006, JR Digs triumphantly returns to network television with his brand new series called IN THE CAN with JR DIGS. The show is a celebration of "creativity" and "high ambition" as JR gives back to his fans, by allowing them the opportunity to shoot their own short films which are featured at the end of every episode. Each show consists of exclusive behind the scenes documentary footage of an unknown, and aspiring filmmaker hard at work; struggling to overcome various on-set adversities while desperately trying to have their entire film shot in only two days! They have no budget and they have no stars; just their reckless enthusiasm and the chance to have their work aired on national television and seen by Canadians from coast to coast. So, move over Norman Jewison, David Cronenberg and Atom Egoyan. One day, one of these talented unknown filmmakers could become the next BIG name in Canadian filmmaking; and all because they got their film IN THE CAN with JR DIGS! For more details, inquire at studentfilm@jrdigs.com or contact JR directly at jr@jrdigs.com For more information about the history or The JR DIGS Show go to www.jrdigs.com and click on the show history page. IN THE CAN with JR DIGS airs nationally on Globals CH stations Friday nights at Midnight and again on Saturday nights at 12:30am on CH in Ontario. ......Keep spreading the word guys, I appreciate it a ton! I'll try touching base again soon. Right now I'm heading up to Muskoka for the day because I'm driving my Mom to the cottage.
Five words a minute...
Lets see.... Last Wednesday and Thursday I was busy shooting another short film with Pozz for my new series.About ten hours after getting that film in the Can,I stumbled into a local High School to work with a film studies class who I have agreed to make a movie with for the series. At around 3:30pm on Friday afternoon we rapped up the first day of shooting and I took Friday night off to go see a movie. Mission Impossible was impossible to get tickets for so we went to the cheapy theatre and watched The Inside Man which was pretty good.I actually started falling asleep about half way into the movie but it wasn't because I was bored,I was just totally exhausted. Today I slept in and spent the rest of the day washing my cloths and cleaning up around here because my life is a mess.I have to figure out how to get more organized and and take care of the basics. Things are going really well right now and I am crazy busy but my socks and underwear are all dirty and I have crap all over the place around here. It's driving me crazy! Tonight I'm meeting my Mom and my sister for dinner. My folks got home from Florida a week ago and my Mom has been staying at my sisters place while my Dad officially opens the cottage. The water needs to be turned on and there are a few other things that needed to be done before my Mom heads up North. They spend six months at the cottage and six months in Florida now. They sold the house when Dad retired a couple of years ago. I told my Dad I would drive my Mom up there on Suday but I have to be back here first thing Monday morning so I doubt if I'll even spend the night up there which kind of sucks. On Monday we are shooting for the second and last day at the High School. At one point on Friday,I was asked to go round up some extra's for a scene in the gym. Wait until you see the footage of me running through the halls with about one hundred a fifty kids who I ended up pulling out of class to be in this movie! It was absolutely hilarious. I would love to explain in more detail how I got all these kids out of class but my "ADD" is kicking in and I'm getting bored of sitting here punching away at this key board. If I don't soon figure out an easy way to shoot and post video here on my blog,I suspect that the frequency of my updates here will continue to diminish. I just can't type fast enough to make updating my blog any fun. I need to be able to grab my camera, push record, say hi to you guys, talk about some stuff and have it on line within ten minutes. This typing shit takes me forever,I hate it! Next Tuesday,I'm out of town for a few days to meet with some Tv people about another new project so if I don't get back here before then, have a great week everyone. Drop me a line sometime. It's always good to hear from you guys.
Holy crap!
What can I say.... I'm losing my freakin mind! I gotta go! I'm late again! I need more co-op/volunteers/editors for the summer! I need some sort of administartive/assistant type person around here to help me keep my shit together. I need to get going, I'm even more late than the last time I mentioned I was late! I think the name of my new series is being changed to "IN THE CAN with JR DIGS" any thoughts on that guys?
