Back to"Being Real" REal tired......
So yesterday I was in a bit of a rush, party because I got a late start to my day after a late nigth on Monday night and mostly because I was on my way out for another latenight after a 4-1 leaf lose to the Bruins. No time yesterday to philosophize about how birthdays these days can start to remind a guy as clueless as I am that I might actually be getting old and no interest today in babbling on about it because after the last couple nights out, I'm reminded without a doubt, that I'm probably far less mature in my head now than I ever was when I was 25, Go figure! I sure don't want to try and figure it out! I have enough to figure out this week with last weekends episode of Another Crappy Canadian Latenigth Talkshow airing in some parts of the Country and in other parts of the Country an episode of "In The Can" from last summer airing not too mention not having a clue what episode of "Be Real" aired tonight at 7:00pm on TvTropolis! Did anyone watch it? What episode aired tonight? My favorite episode to be aired so far was the one we shot in Hamilton this summer with that Wrestler dude we met walking down the street. I don't really know which episode aired tonight not because I'm a complete moron although that might be true, it's because unlike my new latenight show on Saturday nights, "Be Real" was produced for TvTropolis with an actual network budget by an actual big shot producer guy and an actual and amazing crew that he assembled. So someone other than me is actually responsible for delivering the shows to the station each week and since I didn't have to do every job there is to do on this series including being the delivery guy, I don't know for sure what show may have been delivered to go on the air this week. If it's an episode I haven't seen yet, than I will have to remember to take a break at 11:30pm tonight because the same episode airs again tonight on TvTropolis. After the blur of those sixteen plus hour days of shooting, how each of the episodes ends up being cut together and packaged into a half hour of television is as new and as interesting to me as it is to you guys watching the show at home. I suggest that you guys start going to www.berealtv.ca each week as well to check out some of the blogs by the crew and for sure check out the show extra's. I was talking about Rebecca earlier this week because she was the one that lead me to discovering this black hole at my server that has been swallowing most of the emails you guys have been sending me over the last few months. Well anyways, if you check out the behind the scenes footage from each of the episodes we shot this summer, you can actually see this little super star Rebecca in action! I like checking out the behind the scenes clips mostly because I miss making Tv with all those guys and seeing that footage is a glimpse into me and the crew "Being Real" which is kinda cool I guess. I bet that little chach aka Rebecca hates that I just blogged about her right now, which is awesome.
Getting a bit more Serious....?
Little bit of a slow start to my day today after a little bit of a late night last night out celebrating my B-Day a little bit! Yep, it's my birthday today which explains why maybe I all of a sudden about two weeks ago stopped listening to the Alt Nation station on my SIRIUS satellite radio and started listening to the Left Of Center station all the time. Yep, I'm getting old and shit which is something I don't have any time to babble on about right now because Vic is taking me out tonight for my birthday which will be nice. Great to be able to make the time to take another night off from working myself to death. Birthdays are probably best spent with the people you should spend way more time with in life or at least more quality time with especially if they want to take you for dinner and to a Leaf game where your seats will be a couple rows behind the Leaf bench!(Nice) My good pal Bri took me for lunch to Tuckers Market Place where on your birthday you eat for free on your birthday so I pretended like I forgot my ID so that I couldn't get the free meal and he would have to pay! What are friends for right?(lol)
About the big announcement?
Last nights show was suppose to have a big huge announcement right? I got some awesome news last week that I was going to announce during last nights show, right? Well it was news to me when I found out this morning that the show we shot last week and delivered to the station didn't air on Tv last night! I still have no clue what happened or why it didn't air last night so I guess I will have to wait until Monday morning until someone at the Network updates me about why an episode of "In The Can" that we shot and aired last summer aired last night instead of the scheduled episode of Another Crappy Canadian Latenight Talkshow. I know that by now I have almost kind of come to expect stuff to always get screwed up and end up being more difficult and way harder than it should ever have to be but it's still a bit discouraging. Mostly because I was just starting to get on a bit of a roll and I hate letting you guys down and by the sounds of a couple of the emails I read, some of you guys are really starting to get into watching me build and create Another Crappy Canadian Latenight Talkshow each week and some of you are sincerely interested in hearing about this big news I got last week. Should I just tell you now, or just have everyone wait to hear about it in next weeks show which was suppose to air last night and didn't for some reason? One thing I will tell you about right now in an effort to always spin anything and everything that ever happens that's screwed up into a more positive light, for sure I am producing a second season of "In The Can" and it's scheduled to air in the spring of 2007! That's all I should tell you about right now but just know that season 2 of "In The Can" is going to be ramped up in a huge way so if you or anyone you know is an aspiring film maker, make sure to contact me about being a part of the new season! Speaking of things always getting totally screwed up and contacting me, make sure to remember to email me at jr@jrdigs.com because until Steve gets the contact page updated and on line again, that's still the only way to reach me and get your email into my inbox so I can read it. So anyways, while some of you guys were scratching your heads last night and wondering why an old and announcement-less episode of "In The Can" was being aired last night, I was finishing off a great steak dinner at Sizzle and chasing it with way too many shooters. I never drink shooters really but we did last night for some reason. It was a great night, thanks to everyone at Sizzle and on the top floor of KoI and to those of you who I ran into in the wee hours. If some of you guys who were taking pictures last nigth send them to me, I'll post them here in my blog for people to laugh at. Goodtimes but I have been draggin my ass all day today though. Good thing it was such a nice day outside. I took my S50 so that I could listen to a little Ben Kweller and went for a long refreshing walk on the path along the lake this afternoon. Tonight I plan on doing more of nothing except lay around, eat and watch studio 60 and hopefully crash early for a change. Since it now looks like next weekends show has already been cut together and delivered to the station I guess I'm officially a full week ahead of schedule. That seems like a good way of spinning this latest screw up in what has become just another week in the life of JR DIGS! Later guys, have a good night.
Big Announcement on the show tonight!!!!
It's Saturday night and I absolutely need to bring some balance into my life so considering that on the show tonight there will be a huge big announcement about some really amazing news I got this past week, I'm going to put on a clean pair of socks and maybe even a dapper looking shirt and go to Sizzle in Hamilton for an awesome steak dinner, some wine and act like a big shot for the night! The guys at KOI and at Sizzle in Hess Village always treat me like the big shot Tv dude that deep down I wish I was so it seems like a good idea to head down there tonight. I'm sure we will end up drinking more than a few cocktails before the night raps up so if any of you guys are there tonight, make sure to say hi. Chances are we will probably end up upstairs at some point showing of some fancy footwork. I like to move it,move it....MOve IT!
The black hole apology!
Hey guys, sorry for not making any post this week yet! I would go on a little rant here about how unbelievably busy I have been all week but that would just end up being more of a glimpse into my sorry ass life that is now just about entirely consumed by this show I am putting together each week. It's actually half pathetic how all consuming this show has become and how little energy or focus I have for anything else other than making Another Crappy Canadian Latenigth Talkshow but what's a guy to do? I don't really feel like getting into a big explanation about how after five mostly regrettable years of hard work, the fall of 2007 has become that make or break moment in time for me but if I don't make things happen now for myself, I probably never will. It's crazy how many nights this past week I worked on the show until 2 or 3:ooam, crashed for a few hours and then bolted out of bed in the middle of a dream about not getting this weeks show delivered on time. It's Friday night, most of my friends are probably out boozin and I'll be here looking at footage that needs to be cut together for next weeks show. Scott has some cool music acts booked on the show over the next few weeks so I need things to go really smoothly and put together some awesome new shows. I got some great news this week that you will find about on the show Saturday night. Its definitely going to change and improve some things around here. The lack of manpower and volunteers to help me put this show together each week means that lots of stuff gets overlooked and I've just kind of learned to except that. On "Be Real" which is the series now airing on TvTropolis that we shot this past summer, we had an actual budget and a crew of over a dozen people. Rebecca is one of the PA's and absolutely one of the coolest most sincere people I have ever met and she called me the other day to say hey. She also gave me crap for not returning an email she had sent me. I told Rebecca that she was full of crap because I never got an email from her and if I did I would have for sure sent one back to her cause I miss her and all my old crew on "Be Real". She insisted that she had sent me one so a couple days ago I asked Steve,my volunteer camera guy/web guy/audio guy/computer genius guy to see if there was any way that an email could have been sent to me and ended up some place other than my in box! So get this! Steve discovered that for months now, every single email that was sent to me through the contact page on my website has been diverted into a black hole at the server which means not only have I never received any of these emails but it's impossible to ever even retrieve these emails. Even though these emails may have been sent to me months ago, it would be nice to at least be able to respond to them and apologies to all the people who now think I must be a total dick for never responding to the email they sent me. At least Rebecca could call me and tell me I'm a jerk for not responding to the email she sent me and I could say "yo little chewchach, I didn't get no email from you, I ain't no jerk"! What about the rest of you guys, do you want my phone number so I can call you all? Do you want me to apologize to each and every one of you here in my blog? Do you want me to write a sad apologetic song and sing it to you all in a vlog or what? I feel really bad and still can't believe this could have happened but you may have noticed that Steve is now working on the contact page and if any of you guys email me ever again, you can absolutely count on getting an email back from me but make sure to email me at jr@jrdigs.com because that's the only address that seems to be getting emails into my inbox! Later guys.I gotta get back to work. Go check out Rebecca's blog at www.berealtv.ca and go to the photo gallery to see a funny picture of Chach and I and a pickle!
Tonight on the TUbe....
My efforts to build and create Another Crappy Canadian Latenigth Talkshow took a huge leap forward this week. We ended up in an actual theatre and it looks like you guys must be telling your friends all about the show because I am getting way more emails than ever before from people and the support is amazing! It's awesome to hear from you guys, your feedback will always be encouraged and it's cool to be meeting more and more of you guys on line who want to help me make this show each week. Getting into an actual theatre to shoot this weeks show is a huge step forward and having two more new volunteers who both have their own camera's to shoot the show is an even bigger step forward. Thanks Len, thanks Dave, and thanks again to Steve my very first volunteer with a camera who contacted me about coming out each week to shoot Another Crappy Canadian Latenight Talkshow! While I'm thanking guys here, I suppose I should also thanks Scott who joined me a couple weeks ago as the shows official Show Booker even though tonight's guest wasn't exactly who I had in mind and almost made my lose my friggin mind by the end of the show! It's been another extremely busy week but I did manage to take a few hours off to see The Borat Movie. It was pretty funny! A little more contrived and faked up than I thought it was going to be but still, it was definitely worth going to see. I was lucky enough to be introduced to Sacha Baron Cohen when he was in Toronto for the Toronto International Film Festival and I ended up actually getting to talk with me for ten minutes or so which was really kinda cool. The only thing that sucked about it was that after talking with him for so long about his show, my shows and some other stuff, I guess I felt like asking him if I could take a picture with him would have somehow erased the last ten minutes and turned me back into some fan who just wanted a picture taken! That was dumb because I really would have liked to have a picture of us if for no other reason than to post it here in my blog right now! Since I was too stupid to get a damn picture of us together taken for my blog, I decided to fake one and post it here instead! If they could fake some of those scenes in the Borat Movie, its only fair that I get to fake a picture of us together so here it is...... Tell all your friends to watch the show tonight and if you are not sure when it's on, just check out the schedule on the home page!!!!!! Later Guys, have a great weekend!
JR & THE SKETCHERSONS!
Sounds kinda like a cool name for my new band! I'm not actually planning on starting a new band although I would love to but as if I have two seconds in my life these days to do anything like that. A couple of the girls in The Sketchersons are actually in a hilarious band though, so for sure you can expect to see them perform as a music act one of these weeks on Another Crappy Canadian Latenight Talkshow! It was awesome to get to hang out for a couple days this past week with The Sketchersons and host Sunday Night Live last night. It was a packed house and things couldn't have went any better for my first time ever on stage in front of a live audience doing comedy like that. Ok sure, my fake gold teeth wouldn't stay in my mouth during the "Pimp my Burrito" sketch but it just ended up being funny and the entire night went by in a blur. A big happy hilarious and enjoyable blur! Thanks again to The Sketchersons for asking me to host the show last night, these are without a doubt some of the funniest people I have ever met and with any luck you guys will be seeing some of them on my show over the next couple months as I continue building Another Crappy Canadian Latenight Talkshow each week. I shot some video at the show last night to post on my blog here but I haven't had any time at all to even look at it yet, never mind cut it together and post it for you guys to check out. It was 3:00am by the time I got home after hangin out after the show with the crew and everyone else in the bar who stuck around to say hi. I crashed and got all of four hours of sleep and literally have been in the edit suite for almost sixteen hours now getting this weeks show cut together so that I have it delivered by midnight. Right now I have to go be delivery dude and get this weeks show dropped off and then hopefully find something to eat. I missed Studio 60 on Tv tonight but thankfully time shifting allows guys like me to see both the prime time shows I actually like watching, at 1:00am instead of in prime time when apparently I am always working still. Anyways, I better get rolling here guys.
Don't forget to wear your poppies today!
Not sure what you guys will be doing tonight but I hope that some of you end up watching Another Crappy Canadian Latenight Talkshow and I hope you are planning to go to The Brunswick House on Sunday night! I'll see you there, we can have a beer and laugh about how friggin nervous I was doing live comedy in front of a crowd for the first time ever. Hosting Sunday Night Live should be fun but I still have to find some time between now and then to half memorize the lines to a couple of these sketches the Sketchersons are putting me in. Like I was saying, I don't know what you guys are up to tonight but I will be hanging out with "Andrew The Psycho Fan" all night at the rock paper scissors championships being held in Toronto. I entered Andrew in the competetion and Steve and I are going to shoot footage of him all night to put in next weekends show. When I get home I have to go right back to editing because I still have lots of work to do for next weekend show that has to be delivered first thing on Monday morning. Hopefully I will get a couple hours of sleep, grab some brunch and be on time for the rehearsal at 2:00pm on Sunday afternoon. After Sunday Night Live and a few beers with you guys, I will need to get home here to finish putting next weekends show together and make sure I get it delivered on time Monday morning. What are you guys doing this weekend?
Rehearsal with The Sketchersons...
Just getting home from a rehearsal for my first ever live comedy performance that will be this Sunday Night in Toronto at The Brunswick House! I'm hosting Sunday Night Live which is basically just like Saturday Night Live accept that it's not being produced for television by Lorne Michaels and it's on Sunday nights not Saturday Nights which is a good thing! I want people home this Saturday night watching Another Crappy Canadian Latenight Talkshow on Tv so I can keep jackin up those ratings. It's bad enough that I'm competing against myself in some places in the Country with my other show "Be Real" which repeats Saturday Nights at 11:00pm on TvTropolis, so the last thing I want to do right now is encourage people to not watch either show this Saturday night and go check out this first live comedy performance of mine. The rehearsal tonight was hilarious. Nerve racking but fun none the less. The Sketchersons who make up the cast of Sunday Night Live are a group of hilarious people. They have written four sketches for me to be in although one of them will probably get cut after Sundays rehersal before the show. I have never ever done anything live like this before so if I literally piss my pants during the opening monologue when the host each week kind of introduces themselves to the audience and welcomes everyone to the show, please don't laugh because I'll actually be pissing myself,it won't be something that is planned or meant to be funny. I can't remember the last time I was this nervous about doing something other than pretty much every time I am about to have sex but that's something I don't feel comfortable discussing with you guys here in my blog!
HAPPY B-DAY VIC!
The worst thing about taking someone out for their birthday who knows you really really really well, is that when you suggest for example going out to watch some live entertainment, they know that going to watch a live comedy show might actually have just a little bit to do with what I want to do tonight instead having a long overdue night out to kick back relax, have a few laughs and catch up while we celebrate such an important day like this one is!(lol) Ok sure,I'm hosting "Sunday Night Live" next Sunday in Toronto and I've never actually seen the show which is brutal considering I am booked to do it next Sunday Night but that doesn't for sure mean I'm a completely self consumed jerk does it? I guess maybe it does and I haven't even noticed because I've been hangin around with so many industry type people so much lately. I guess with my life on hyperspeed these days and feeling sometimes for some reason, like I need to give everything I have to this crazy ass so called career I have on the go, I end up some times so consumed and overwhelmed by it all that I can actually end up losing track of the things that always mattered the most to me and maybe even take for granted the people who have always been there with unconditional support and faith in me as this five year quest now takes me on yet another path to who knows where. I guess there are so few of these people in my life that it almost seems ridiculous for me to believe it's even possible to somehow take them for granted but maybe that's why that kind of shit can happen if you let it. You end up meeting lots of new people when your career seems to be on the move. Partly I guess because people in this industry seem instinctively inclined to want to get to know you a little bit and maybe even pretend like they are their for you when they see that some sort of connection or relationship with you might actually end up being good for their career's but mostly I think because you just meet and get to know way more people because you end up working on more and more stuff with people when your career is moving in the direction mine is right now! This is my life now and it's everything I have been working towards and I love it! That doesn't mean thought that it doesn't suck when maybe you realize one day that there might be someone you thought you kind of knew and could count on and hopefully even trust, turns out to be nothing like you thought they were. Not that this has happened and I'm actually talking from experience here because that's probably not something I would want to talk too much about in my blog here but I will say that the fakness of this industry and probably most of the people working in it absolutely can sometimes make you take stock of anything and everyone you should in fact appreciate more than you do sometimes. About a month ago, Vic planned a surprise party for me to celebrate "Another Crappy Canadian Latenight Talkshow" going on the air as well as "Be Real" being on the air and to recognize that it had been a little over five years ago since she threw me my first party to celebrate actually even getting on the air at all. So here I am and things really couldn't be going any better for me. Knowing that I have always wanted this blog to be a place where I would stay positive and focus on the good stuff more than the bad or disappointing stuff, I would like to say thanks again Vic! Thanks for everything! Thanks for being who you have always been and who you will I'm sure always be! It's good to know that! Happy Birthday Vic and here are a few of the pics I was telling you about from the party that were sent to me just the other day....
