Shooting my show from my house?

Its great to hear from so many of you guys who seem as excited as I am about me shooting the show from my van these days. These first few episodes that were shot from the van and have been airing over the last two weeks were episodes that were made totally on the fly and on the road last fall. I never really planned on airing these first few episodes as I've mentioned recently in my blog because the episodes are mostly filled with footage shot years ago. Being stuck on the side of the road or in a garage waiting to have the van fixed didn't exactly give me much of an opportunity to shoot cool or interesting new footage which is why I guess I ended up featuring and filling these shows with old footage in an effort to make them into episodes last fall in case I needed or wanted to air them.

Last weekends episode which was shot from the van in the garage of Cam Brookhouse featured footage shot way back in the day when I wasn't shooting footage from my van or in a garage but from my house. I remember how it wasn't exactly by choice back then but with zero budget I had to shoot the show each week somewhere and shooting from my house didn't cost a thing! Feedback from people about particular episodes that are aired is awesome and I've received a bunch of it this week for some reason. It's always appreciated however I must admit, some of the facebook messages and emails I've received this past week regarding last weekends episode have started to bug me more than just a little bit I guess.

Seems like there are a few people out there who think I'm shooting my show from my house just like Tom Green does these days. Here is the thing though, I'm not shooting the show from my house these days, I did that years ago! Last weekends episode featured footage from when I use to shoot the show in my house years ago. The footage featured on last weekends episode was really old footage shot years ago back when Tom Green as a matter of fact was a guest on my show one week!

So to any of you who have contacted me or watched last weekends show and thought hey, JR is shooting his show from his house just like Tom Green is, let me make this clear one last time.......... last weekends episode featured footage from back in the day when I was shooting my show from my house which was years ago!

I'm not really sure why I feel the need to blog about being slightly annoyed by these emails and facebook messages other than the fact that back when I was shooting the show from my house I thought it was a unique and kind of an original thing to be doing at the time on Network television. Now suddenly all these years later according to some people, I'm shooting my show from my house just like Tom Green is. I guess feedback from people about the show really is awesome because at least I can email or message them back and share my thoughts about stuff as well.

It's easier and quicker to blog back though! Good to know you guys read these things!

AIRING THIS WEEKEND!

After giving some thought regarding what episode I should I air this weekend, I've decided to stick with the same line of thinking I had last week when deciding to air the original episode I shot from the van on my way out to Regina last fall for the Gemini Awards. To this day, there are people who sometimes seem proud to tell me they remember watching the very first episodes of television I ever made and got on Tv! Whats cool about that is they were watching way back in the beginning and I guess it's awesome to know that after all these years they still remember those first few episodes and are still interested in what I'm doing to this day.

Last fall after buying my van to drive out West in, I shot and cut together four episodes that never aired. They didn't seem all that interesting at the time because there wasn't a ton of new and hilarious footage to shoot while being broke down on the side of the road out in the middle of no where or in a garage getting the van fixed and running again. That being said, now I kinda think maybe its a good idea not just to air the first episode I shot which aired last weekend, but to air the other episodes as well. It absolutely documents for fans of the show what happened those first few weeks with the van and why I eventually decided it might be a good idea to keep shooting the show each week from this old van I bought.

As a matter of fact, the episode that will be airing this weekend, picks up where last weekends episode left of, broke down on the side of the road. Without a ton of footage to shoot that would have been interesting enough to fill my half hour timeslot, I ended up improvising in the effort to make up the half hour of airtime for the episode and in looking at it again, I totally think it will be something you guys will want to see.

Instead of giving it all away here, how about I just encourage everyone to watch the show this weekend and let me know what you think of it either by email or on facebook!

Have a great weekend everyone!

JR DIGS (Man with a van)

Man with a van, Yes! Man with a Plan.... not so much!

It's great to get some new footage on the air again even though the footage wasn't all that new. Last weeks show was cut and put together to create an episode and delivered to the network as kind of a last minute idea which was inspired by a wall post I read on my facebook page.

I know that everyone has been waiting way too long to see what kind of stuff I have been shooting from my van and even though I was looking forward to finally airing the episodes that have already been shot including the episode I shot from the van with Dane Cook, I ended up delivering the episode you guys watched this past weekend instead!

The post I'm talking about on my wall on my facebbok page, was mostly about wanting me to come out to Regina in my van to shoot stuff and the irony of that I guess kind of influenced my decision to cut last weekends episode together. Ironic mostly because the only reason I even bought the van last fall was so that I could drive out to Regina for the Gemini Awards. I was nominated for my first and probably my last Gemini award for "Best Host"bla bla bla and after sneaking in all these years, being invited was kinda cool for a change.....anyways, I digress.

The point is that I never did make it out to Regina, the van broke down on the way there and I guess I started thinking maybe I should dig up the first footage I ever shot from the van which was in fact footage shot on my way out to Regina last fall. I figured that maybe people would actually want to see how and why these days I'm shooting Another Crappy Canadian Latenight Talkshow from this old van I have!

If another new chapter of this crazy ass experiment in latenight is about to unfold, I guess I thought I may as well start from the beginning. Hope those of you who caught the show last weekend think it was a good call that I made.
